Bathtub Refinishing

What is Bathtub Refinishing?

Bathtub refinishing is the process of refreshing the surface of a worn, damaged bathtub to a like-new condition. This process typically involves repairing any damaged areas like chips or cracks first, to ensure a smooth and consistent working surface all around. Surfaces have to be prepped with acid etching or some other form of slight corrosions, as they are very non-porous and need something to “stick” on. After preparing the surface, primer is applied, followed by a top coat. Generally, a catalyzed two-component cross-link synthetic white coating is applied, but the coating does not have the durability or abrasive tolerance of the original glass-enamel coating of a factory-new bathtub. But it’s still quite strong, and you can trust it to last for a long time to come.

Can You Do It Yourself?

You CAN do it yourself  but that does NOT mean that you should. You can always use a DIY kit, but you just don’t get that expertise or quality that comes with calling a professional. DIY kits generally do not offer the same level of bonding and thus, deteriorate more quickly, relying primarily on epoxy adhesion. Without professional spray equipment, the final aesthetic can look sloppy and not uniform. Is your bathroom ventilated enough for you to do it without a respirator? I bet you’re not sure. It’s easier to let the pros handle the whole job so you can trust that you don’t have to worry about any of those little things and you know they’ll be done right.
